Memorize a Shakespearean sonnet (try Sonnet 18, 29 or 116 for starters). Set up a romantic evening with a fire, nice dinner, her favorite wine and some nice background music. After dinner, have her sit on a comfortable chair or sofa near the fire, fill her wine glass and recite the sonnet. At the end of your recital, bend down on one knee, offer the ring and make the proposal. You might want to incorporate the sonnet into your wedding ceremony, as well.

Take her out to a romantic dinner for two at her favorite restaurant. Arrange with the waiter to put her ring on the dessert tray, so she can choose here (hopefully) favorite dessert!

Go to the beach near sunset. While she is otherwise engaged for a few minutes, use a stick to write out your proposal in the sand. Get her to look quickly before the waves wash it away!

Arrange a morning dedication (when you know she is listening) from a local DJ with the instructions to meet you at a certain place and time. When your curious fiancée to be arrives, have a small table for two ready with a catered dinner (or lunch). Let her think you’re just being fun and impulsive, and then pop the question for dessert!

Take her to the place you first met (or first date, etc). Recreate the moment as much as possible and then, when both of you are properly in the nostalgic moment, propose to her.

Have an intimate dinner for two catered at your home, hire a violinist and arrange to have the ring delivered to her on the violinist’s bow.

If you play piano or guitar, play her a special personalized version of her favorite song, with the proposal coming at the end or (even better) woven into the lyrics.
